Rashida Tlaib, 44, a U.S. Representative, has emerged winner in the Democratic primary election against Brenda Jones, President of Detroit City Council, Tlaib’s formidable challenger.

The County election result on Wednesday August 5, 2020, showed that Tlaib, one of the first two Muslim women to be elected to Congress in 2018, won 89.9% of the primary as she got 63,650 votes against 32,582 fo Jones.

Tlaib’s Wednesday’s victory was a verisimilitude of the 2018 contest in which Jones was trailing close to Tlaib with just 1,000 votes less.

“Voters sent a clear message that they’re done waiting for transformative change, that they want an unapologetic fighter who will take on the status quo and win,” Tlaib said.

Months into the election, Tlaib had fundraising and polling advantage over Jones, who had supports of many local leaders and the state’s Democratic Black caucus.

Jones, 60, is a prominent politician who has declared his support for the former Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, Biden.

However, Tlaib, who has emerged victorious in the contest, has yet to endorse Biden, the party’s presumptive candidate.

Tlaib’s fellow, Ilhan Omar, a congresswoman and a member of the Squad, from Minnesota’s 5th District, is getting warmed up for a primary contest next week.

Late July, in New York, Suraj Patel, a progressive Democrat did not concede Carolyn Maloney, a veteran congresswoman, Representative’s victory, as she waited mail-in ballots count, which however has no potential to influence the outcome of the June primary.

The city Board Elections has certified Maloney as the winner on Tuesday, but to Patel, not counting the mail-in ballots means automatic disenfranchisement of the voters for a fault that was not theirs, according to her twist on Tuesday.
