Egypt has recorded an increase in the numbers of Covid-19 cases and deaths, while health authorities keep urging residents to stick to social distancing.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population said on Saturday that 611 more people tested positive for the coronavirus and 28 patients died over the past 24 hours.

The figures took the country’s tally to 124,891 infections and 7,069 deaths, the ministry said.

Covid-19 cases started to rise in the country last Thursday after 548 new coronavirus cases were detected.

Meanwhile, an Egyptian-Sudanese medical conference was held Sunday to discuss the COVID-19 treatment protocol announced by the Egyptian Health and Population Ministry on November 8.

Held under the auspices of Health and Population Minister Hala Zayed, the teleconference was attended by members of the ministry’s scientific committee, which shared its treatment protocol with Sudanese colleagues.

Adviser to Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Mohamed Gad said the medical gathering would open up a discussion between Egyptian and Sudanese doctors to exchange expertise for the benefit of patients in both countries.

“The conference was held at the request of the Sudanese side to share experiences and scientific opinions of the Egyptian Health Ministry regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, which arrived in Egypt lately,” Gad said.

Last Friday, Egypt sent additional medical professionals and supplies to Sudan as part of its efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic and to help contain its spread.

Sudan recorded its first COVID-19 case on March 13, 2020.

Cairo is keen to support the health sector in its neighboring country and strengthen the government’s work.
