Early voting, as per the NY Board of Elections is a new phonemon, where we have 9 days before Election day to vote.
So as we speak, every district in all of NYC is consolidating their polling stations and receiving voters. The BOE trained several workers prior to the process for several positions , from the information table- to the scanner people– to the coordinators.
Sure every vote counts, but how much in dollars is it?.
I have just finished covering a polling site in The Bronx, for 6 days ( out of 9). As of today, this site has 264 voters . As of today this site has 30 workers, all receiving $250 a day.
So if we ” streched” this out from 6 days to 9- on average, you would have 396 voters or votes . Since 30 people would be working all 9 days, the economic cost will be $67,500.
In simple terms , then each vote would be worth $170.45. While I will not mention the polling site, what I will say is that in year 2017, in the General Election, before Early voting was created, the polling site received 2200 votes. Thus, early voting , based on the above numbers brings in 18% of the early vote.
Is getting 18% of the early vote worth $67,500?. Is it worth paying $170.45 per vote to do so?.
Even worse, that’s just one district. If we cover 10 districts, thus The Bronx, we are looking at appox $675,000 for the cost. Add the other 4 boroughs, $2,7 million .
Wait a minute!. How much is Deblasio paying now for that COVID shot?
