The Nigerian Union of Journalists has announced the death of one its brilliant cartoonists, Azeez Ozi Sanni.

While announcing his death on Monday June 15, 2020, the NUJ noted that Sanni, who was a staff member of The Nation Newspaper, was a committed member of the association.

Expressing his shock over Sanni’s death, Musa Odoshimokhe, NUJ The Nation Chapel Chairman, said, “Azeez was a committed member of The Nation’s NUJ and he showed that commitment in every event that needs members’ participation.

“I recalled that the last time I spoke to him on his sick when he disclosed that he was battling liver cirrhosis, the tone of his voice was excruciating.

“Death came hard to poach a reliable union man. I pray that God console his family and give the union the fortitude to bear his exit,” Odoshimokhe stated.

Sharing in the pain of the moment, Deputy Editor of Sunday Nation, Yinka Oyegbile, lamented that Sanni’s death is a great loss.

“What a loss. Every week when he brought his cartoon for approval he was always full of smiles. So easy going. As John Donne wrote: The death if anyone diminishes me, because I’m involved in humanity.

“May Allah grant him eternal rest. He did his best. No one know his or her exit point.”

John Unachukwu, a friend to the deceased, who also offered his condolences, lamented that Sanni’s death was a colossal loss to his immediate family and The Nation family.

“Azeez Ozi Sanni, my good friend and ally, just gone the way of all mortals. May God give the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. And may your gentle soul rest in peace,” he stated.
