The United Cities of Local Government (UCLG) has recognized Mayor Rohey M. Lowe as the mayor of the month.
While expressing gratitude via her Facebook page, Lowe said, “It is with deep appreciation that I have been selected as Mayor of the Month by The United Cities of Local Government (UCLG).”
She added, “I wish to in turn share this accolade with the women of The Gambia whose partnership has led to this laudable achievement.”
Mayor Lowe dedicated the recognition to all the young girls and women she has worked with.
In her words, “This recognition is for all the young girls and women I have worked with and for the women and girls I continue to inspire. My appreciation to my team and the City of Banjul for their continuous trust in my leadership.”
As the head of the municipality of the city of Banjul, The Gambia, Rohey Malick Lowe is intensely involved in actions in favor of the development of her local authority. In particular, she has made the question of gender her main battleground.
She has been able to unite the locally elected women of the country and establish the country chapter of the Network of Local Elected Women of Africa (REFELA – The Gambia).
